Speaker Bio: David Cohn

David Cohn
NewAssignment.net, Editor

David Cohn is an obvious ego-maniac. How else can you explain all the pictures of himself and writing this “about” section in third person?

This is also what spurred his passion for journalism — seeing his byline next to perfectly prosed text.

This love for himself began during his Los Angeles childhood and continued through his studies at U.C. Berkeley, where he helped start an undergraduate philosophy journal. Sick of philosophy by the end of the ordeal, David thoroughly enjoyed the process of spreading convoluted and esoteric knowledge. After a brief stint selling aphorisms on the street, he decided to pursue journalism.

Today David has been published in Wired News, Seed Magazine and the New York Times, among other places. Much of his writing has focused on science and technology (he is a “geek writer”) and currently he relies on his otherwise useless knowledge of the Web to help develop the emerging practice of open source journalism at NewAssignment.Net. But he has also drawn on his experience in music, life and love to write about everything under the sun — from Polish diners to professional beat-box artists.

He hopes you enjoyed this five-paragraph intro, which was painstaking to write.
